Chelsea attacker, Hakim Ziyech has announced his retirement from the Moroccan national team after he was snubbed for the 2021 Aftican Cup of Nations campaign.
The 28 year old who also plays as a winger made this decision after he failed to make the cut for the Atlas Lions’ squad for the 2021 AFCON.
The Moroccan national team coach, Vahid Halihodzic accused Ziyech of not being committed towards national team duty hence his omission from the squad.
Ziyech who has 39 caps and scored 17 goals for the Atlas Lions made it clear he will not play for the North Africans.
“I will not return to the national team, and this is my final decision, I am focussing on what I am doing with my club,” Ziyech said.
The former Ajax man has not played for the Atlas Lions since featuring in the games against Ghana and Burkina Faso in June 2021 and he will not play for Morocco in the upcoming World Cup qualifies in March.
Ziyech is currently with the Chelsea squad ahead of preparation for the semi-finals clash against Al-Hilal for the Club World Cup in the Unitec Arab Emirates.
