The Digital Ghana Agenda being spearheaded by the Vice President, H.E Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to promote Ghana’s digital economy aims at holistically digitalizing Ghana, which includes the agricultural sector.
H.E Dr. Bawumia in podcast on Good Morning Africa has disclosed the digitalization projects underway for the agricultural sector, particularly centering on three aspects of the sector for now. They include the cocoa, fishery, and food crop sectors.
Ghana’s cocoa sector will see the registration of cocoa farmers and their farms on a single digital platform to enhance access to international and markets for the farmers. The digitalization of this sector will again promote the easy provision of subsidies to the farmers and easy provision of credits as well.
This project will be fully complete and operational next year as it is 40% complete as of now. Similar projects are underway for the fishery and food crop sectors as well. A pace will be set for other African countries to follow suit, especially as Ghana moves into the African Continental Free Trade Area (ACFTA).
